Dr. Tim Leung, a senior STEAM education expert, will start with an optical experiment to debunk common scientific myths. He will share the “Formula for writing science fiction stories” and demonstrate how to use generative AI to create sci-fi stories and illustrations. Speaker's Biography
Dr. Leung Tin
Dr. Leung graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a veteran science educator, as well as a writer of youth sci-fi and detective novels, a primary school science textbook author, and a voluntary mentor for the Master-Apprentice Program of the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education. He actively nurtures talented young scientists and aspiring writers. He is frequently invited by primary and secondary schools to give talks, sharing his insights on STEAM education, classroom practices, reading, and creative writing.
Dr. Leung has received numerous awards for his achievements in STEAM teaching and innovation. In 2004, at the 19th National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Contest held in Chengdu, Sichuan, he was awarded the 'National Outstanding Science Teacher Award' by the Ministry of Education and the China Association for Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, becoming the first Hong Kong secondary school teacher to receive this honor. In 2025, his sci-fi novel, 'Future Science Rescue Team.3: The Great Mystery of Bihu Bohao', was selected for the 7th 'Hong Kong Startup Digital Advertising Enterprise × Publishing Promotion Support Scheme', winning the Bronze Award for 'Digital Advertising' and the 'My Favorite Digital Advertising Award.'
This talk is one of the programmes of the "Hong Kong Reading Week 2026" and the "Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival 2026". With "Beyond Fantasy" as its theme, the "Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival 2026" explores how different forms of creativity interact to shape the unique landscape of Hong Kong's pop culture with a diverse array of exciting programmes such as stage performances, thematic exhibitions, film screenings, and library and outreach activities.
